Alex DeGrande

Alex is very excited to be a part of the Sport Fit teaching team! She has a passion for wellness and a large part of her teaching philosophy centers around educating students about the importance of taking care of their physical and mental health and modeling strategies that they can use in their daily lives.

After graduating from the BARST program in the faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation at the University of Alberta, she decided to continue her education at the faculty of Education at the University of Alberta and completed her after degree in Elementary Education. Throughout her time at university, Alex got involved in coaching basketball at a variety of levels from Junior High to High School. Coaching continues to be a passion of hers and she is looking forward to the upcoming season.

Growing up, Alex enjoyed playing and participating in a variety of sports and activities. This has followed her into her adult life and she can often be found playing basketball, ringette, volleyball, slo-pitch, or swimming in her spare time. In addition to her favorite activities, she is also open to trying activities that may be outside of her comfort zone. Having recently started to learn how to golf, Alex hopes to be able to help encourage the students in Sport Fit to see the importance of pushing themselves to try something new. She believes that helping students build their confidence in sport now is what will ultimately help to keep them active for life!
