Danika Horcica

Donnan sport-fit

Danika Horcica joined Donnan in 2020, very excited as to participating in the Sport Fit program, meeting kids who shared her love of sports, and happy to be a “Dragon.” Danika comes from a family who grew up playing hockey, ringette and lacrosse, but her dad’s tennis background and the family’s passion for golf had Danika (from age 4) with a racquet in one hand and a club in the other.

Danika trains for tennis with her team at the Royal Glenora Club, and plays in competitive tournaments across Alberta. In her first year of competitive tournaments in the Under 9 Girls & Boys Division, she had a winning season record, was invited to Tennis Alberta’s Under 9 Training Program, and received the Sportsmanship Award at her very first tournament. In 2020, Danika also received the Sportsmanship Award for Tennis at the Royal Glenora Junior Awards.

As for golf, Danika has been training as part of the Edmonton Country Club’s “Operation 36” program and the Derek Baker Golf Academy. Her family would say the highlight of golf is the time we all get to spend together doing what we love…but, Danika would tell you her highlight was winning the PeeWee Club Championship at the Edmonton Country Club last summer, at 8 years old, competing against boys and girls aged 7-11.

Outside of sports, Danika is very happy to have met so many new and supportive friends at her new school, and loves her new teacher, Ms Ruppell. With her rare few ‘free’ hours, Danika loves trying to train her untrainable dogs, Taz and Hugo, and convince her (allergic) family she needs a horse!
