Donnan Hockey – Future Goals

On Thursday, November 5th The Donnan Hockey Program was thrilled to host Edmonton Oilers Matt Hendricks and Luke Gazdic.

This gathering was the result of the hard work of the Donnan students working on a computer program known as Future Goals. This program was developed by Everfi, in partnership with the NHL. The program itself used the NHL to introduce to students the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathmatics (STEMS) behind the scenes of professional hockey.

Donnan students were in competition with a few other local schools. The school that used Future Goals the most were the recipients of an Oilers visit. The week of Halloween, Mr. Peters was informed that Donnan had won!

So in the cozy setting of the Donnan library, the grade 3-6 Hockey Program students demonstrated to Luke and Matt the Future Goals program, watched an interview of the Oilers hosted by Oiler TV’s Tom Gazzolla, a few students asked the players some great questions, and in the end there was a picture and autograph session.

The afternoon was filled with great excitement, lots terrific information and most importantly all the Donnan Hockey Program kids demonstrating amazing behaviour. A+ all the way!!
